Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team defeated #3 Emory University 4-3 in a thrilling match in Atlanta, Georgia, extending their impressive record to 14-1. This victory also marked Emory's first home loss since 2013, a significant achievement for the Maroons.
UChicago picked uop the doubles point, seuring all three doubls victories.
Sylwia Mikos and
Oliwia Mikos edged Emory 7-6 (7-5) in a tight contest at #1 Doubles.
Lauren Khou and
Shianna Guo cruised past the Eagles with a 6-3 at the #2 position, and
Erica Ekstrand and
Charlotte Klein completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win at #3 Doubles.
In singles action, UChicago added their second point of the match as
Clara Zou cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #6 singles. However, Emory quickly leveled the score line at two with wins at #3 and #4 singles.
Brooke Pedersen added a 6-4, 7-5 win at #5 singles to put the Maroons just one match win away from sealing the win.
The Maroons had a chance to seal the victory with a win at one of the top two singles positions, but both matches were sent to a third set to decide them. Emory came out on top with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at #1 singles to level the match at three and put the entire match in the hands of
Erica Ekstrand at #2 singles. Ekstrand felt the pressure and pushed over the top with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win to seal the 4-3 victory for UChicago.
The victory is a key statement for the University of Chicago as they continue their dominant season and maintain their position as the top-ranked team in the nation, while also handing Emory their first home loss in over a decade. The Maroons improve to 14-1 overall with their ninth consecutive win. The team returns to action on April 11 and 12 as they host Holy Cross and WashU at the Stagg Tennis Courts.
