Women's Swimming and Diving Places Four on Academic All-District Team

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's swimming and diving team placed four student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District Team, as released by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday afternoon. The four student-athletes earning Academic All-District honors include Elisabella Forest, Alicia Soosai, Emily Xu, and Karen Zhao.

Elisabella Forest was a three-time All-American at the NCAA Championships in March, and she was one of just two UChicago swimmers to earn 1st-Team All-American honors. She brought home the top two individual performances for the Maroons in the meet with a 4th-place finish in the 100 Backstroke and a 5th-place finish in the 200 Backstroke. The Chino Hills, California native currently holds the school record in both the 100 Backstroke (54.46) and the 200 Backstroke (1:58.62).

Alicia Soosai tallied four All-American awards this season with a pair of 1st-Team All-American relay finishes and a pair of 2nd-Team All-American individual finishes as she finished 13th in the 100 Breaststroke and 14th in the 200 Breaststroke. The Johor, Malaysia native holds the school record in both breaststroke distances with times of 1:02.48 and 2:16.06.

Emily Xu led the Maroons with six All-American performances at the National Championships in March where she tallied the honors in four relay events and a pair of individual events. Individually, Xu brought home an 11th-place finish in the 100 Freestyle, and she added a second 11th-place finish in the 100 Butterfly with a school record preliminary time of 54.90. In addition to the 100 Butterfly, the Arcadia, California native currently holds the school record in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle, and she ranks top-10 in both the 200 Freestyle and the 200 Butterfly.

Karen Zhao was one of just two individuals for UChicago to earn 1st-Team All-American honors in an individual event as she brought home a 5th-place finish in the 200 Freestyle. Zhao finished the meet with five All-American awards overall for the Maroons. The Bogart, Georgia native ranks top-5 in school history in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, and 200 IM, and she earned All-UAA honors with top-8 finishes in seven different events at the UAA Championships.

The UChicago women's swimming and diving team earned a seventh-place finish in the NCAA Division III Championships two weeks ago in a great overall team performance that included 20 All-American awards.

CSC Academic All-District Team honorees are chosen by the national organization based on combined academic and athletic accomplishments.  Nominees must have a GPA above 3.50 in at least the sophomore year, and they must have either played in 90% or started 66% of their team's games. All four UChicago student-athletes earned a spot on the Academic All-America ballot which will be voted on by sports information directors around the country. The 2025 Academic All-America team will be announced on April 22.
