Box Score CHICAGO —The University of Chicago women's tennis team showcased its depth and resilience in a hard-fought 6-3 victory over WashU on Saturday. The Maroons delivered a strong all-around performance, taking the majority of singles matches and securing key wins in doubles to earn a statement win in UAA conference play.
The match began with an intense doubles session, where the Maroons claimed two of three contests. Shianna Guo and
Erica Ekstrand edged out their WashU opponents in a thrilling 7-6 (13-11) tiebreak, while the tandem of
Sarena Biria and
Nika Vesely posted a solid 6-3 win. Despite a narrow 7-6 (11-9) loss for Olivia Mikos and
Charlotte Klein, UChicago entered singles play with a 2-1 lead.
In singles action, UChicago took control, winning five of six matches to seal the team victory.
Erica Ekstrand notched a straight-set win at the top spot, 6-3, 6-4. Biria added a second win at No. 3 singles, outlasting her opponent in a comeback victory 6-7, 6-2, 6-0.
Freshman
Clara Zou fought through a three-set battle to prevail 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, and Isabelle Chung cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win. Brooke Pederson capped off the singles slate with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 triumph.
The victory improves UChicago's record and solidifies its position as a top contender in the UAA. The Maroons will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matches as postseason play approaches.
