#4 Men's Tennis Sets Sights on UAA Title Defense as Top Seed

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team sets their sights on their fourth UAA Tournament title in the past six tournaments this weekend as the Maroons travel to Altamonte Springs, Florida for the tournament, beginning on Friday morning. The Maroons were awarded the #1 overall seed in the tournament.

#4 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* UChicago comes in with a 19-2 record overall this season following a 7-0 win over #26 UW-Whitewater to close out the regular season.
* The Maroons have added wins over #14 WashU, #22 Carnegie Mellon and #34 Gustavus Adolphus on their six-match winning streak.
* UChicago comes in at 11-2 in matches over top-35 teams this season with both losses coming to #1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
* Michael Choi leads the Maroons in singles play this season with a 21-3 record overall and a 15-1 record in dual matches to take the #27 spot in the NCAA Division III singles rankings and the #10 spot in the Central Region.
* Alexander Ekstrand has added 20 wins with just four losses as he is ranked as the #5 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #3 singles player in the Central Region.
* Emil Grantcharov also enters the weekend ranked as the #12 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #4 singles player in the Central Region with a 15-8 record on the year.
* In doubles play, Derek Hsieh has played lights out with a 23-6 record to lead the Maroons. Hsieh and Grantcharov are ranked as the #22 doubles team in NCAA Division III and the #7 team in the Central Region with a 12-5 record as a team.
* Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero have played well in doubles play this season and enter the weekend ranked as the #3 doubles team in NCAA Division III and the #2 doubles team in the Central Region with an 11-7 record as a tandem.
* Following this weekend, UChicago will set their sights defending their 2024 National Championship with the 2025 NCAA Tournament kicking off on the weekend of May 9-11.

#64 UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER NOTES:

* Rochester enters the weekend with a 9-7 record overall on the season.
* The Yellowjackets snapped a two-match losing streak with a 7-0 win over Alfred on Friday night to close out the regular season.
* Andy Liu leads the team in singles with a 13-6 record overall and a 10-4 record in dual matches.
* In doubles, Rochester is led by Surya Rajamani and Alan Wang with seven wins overall.
* The Yellowjackets are looking for just their second match win in the UAA Tournament since 2011. They are just 1-35 in the last 12 tournaments.

SERIES HISTORY:

* UChicago leads the all-time series 7-3 over Rochester, including seven consecutive wins over the Yellowjackets.
* The Maroons have shutout the Yellowjackets in the last three matches with a combined score of 36-1 in the last five meetings.
* The last Rochester win over UChicago came back in 1999 with a 6-1 win in the UAA Consolation Semifinals.
