#1 Women's Tennis Battles #10 WashU in UAA Semifinals

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team continues their run for their fourth consecutive UAA Tournament Championship this weekend as the Maroons travel to Altamonte Springs, Florida for the tournament. The Maroons were awarded the #1 overall seed in the tournament and took down #45 Rochester 4-0 in the opening round.

#1 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* UChicago enters the weekend with a 18-1 record overall this season.
* The Maroons have won 13 straight matches, ten of which came to ranked opponents, and their only loss this season came to Toledo, a Division I opponent, with a 5-2 loss on February 22.
* UChicago won the ITA Indoor National Championships earlier this spring with wins over #18 Sewanee (7-0), #5 Emory (5-2), and #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (4-1).
* The Maroons took down #3 Emory in Atlanta for one of their nine top-25 wins this season. The win in Atlanta was the first home loss for Emory since 2013.
* Clara Zou leads the Maroons with a 23-2 record in singles play this season after winning the ITA Regional Championship in the fall. She enters the weekend ranked as the #5 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #1 singles player in the Central Region.
* Erica Ekstrand has also added 17 singles wins on the year with just four losses to her name. She enters the weekend ranked as the #6 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #2 singles player in the Central Region.
* Sylwia Mikos, Nicole Geller, and Sarena Biria are also ranked #27, #42, and #45 in NCAA Division singles play with records of 12-6, 6-4, and 16-5. The trio is also ranked #6, #9, and #11 in the Central Region.
* Oliwia Mikos and Sylwia Mikos lead the way in doubles with 20 and 19 wins, respectively. The duo is ranked as the #2 doubles team in NCAA Division III this season, and Oliwia is ranked as the #50 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #12 player in the Central Region.
* Shianna Guo and Lauren Khou are ranked as the #6 doubles team in the Central Region with a 9-3 record as a tandem this season.
* Zou and Biria round out the doubles rankings at #9 in the Central Region with a record of 6-4 on the year.
* Following this weekend, UChicago will set their sights defending their 2024 National Championship with the 2025 NCAA Tournament kicking off on the weekend of May 9-11.

#10 WASHU NOTES:

* WashU sits at 12-6 with three consecutive wins over #10 Trinity (TX), Grinnell, and #17 Case Western Reserve.
* The Bears have played ranked opponents in eight of their last nine matches with a 5-3 record in those matches.
* Ally Lin leads WashU with 13 singles wins this season, and Eliana Hanna has added 12 singles wins for the Bears.
* In doubles play, the #1 doubles team of Eleanor Archer and Caitlin Bui has been excellent with a 16-4 record overall. The duo is ranked as the #1 doubles team in the nation on the year.
* Bui is the #10 ranked singles player in NCAA Division III, and Archer comes in as the #24 ranked singles player in the country.

SERIES HISTORY:

* UChicago leads the all-time series 24-2 with WashU including a 6-1 win earlier this season.
* The Maroons swept the three doubles matches and added wins in five of the six singles positions for the win two weeks ago.
* The lone wins in the series history for WashU since 2007 came in the 2007-08 season when WashU picked up 6-3 and 5-3 victories.
