#1 Women's Tennis Takes on #2 Emory with UAA Crown up for Grabs

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team takes on #2 Emory in a battle of the nation's best with the UAA Title on the line. The match will begin at 8:30 AM ET on Saturday morning.

#1 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* UChicago enters the weekend with a 19-1 record overall this season.
* The University of Chicago narrowly snuck by #10 WashU in the UAA Semifinals with a thrilling come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Bears. Erica Ekstrand was the hero, winning the final four games of the match for a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win in the deciding match.
* The Maroons have won 14 straight matches, eleven of which came to ranked opponents, and their only loss this season came to Toledo, a Division I opponent, with a 5-2 loss on February 22.
* UChicago won the ITA Indoor National Championships earlier this spring with wins over #18 Sewanee (7-0), #5 Emory (5-2), and #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (4-1).
* Clara Zou leads the Maroons with a 24-2 record in singles play this season after winning the ITA Regional Championship in the fall. She enters the weekend ranked as the #5 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #1 singles player in the Central Region.
* Erica Ekstrand has also added 18 singles wins on the year with just four losses to her name. She enters the weekend ranked as the #6 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #2 singles player in the Central Region.
* Sylwia Mikos, Nicole Geller, and Sarena Biria are also ranked #27, #42, and #45 in NCAA Division singles play with records of 13-6, 6-5, and 16-6. The trio is also ranked #6, #9, and #11 in the Central Region.
* Oliwia Mikos and Sylwia Mikos lead the way in doubles with 20 and 19 wins, respectively. The duo is ranked as the #2 doubles team in NCAA Division III this season, and Oliwia is ranked as the #50 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #12 player in the Central Region.
* Shianna Guo and Lauren Khou are ranked as the #6 doubles team in the Central Region with a 9-3 record as a tandem this season.
* Zou and Biria round out the doubles rankings at #9 in the Central Region with a record of 6-4 on the year.
* Following this weekend, UChicago will set their sights defending their 2024 National Championship with the 2025 NCAA Tournament kicking off on the weekend of May 9-11.

#2 EMORY NOTES:

* #2 Emory sits at 15-4 on the season with two of those four losses coming at the hands of the University of Chicago. The other two came at the hands of #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and NAIA #3 Georgia Gwinett.
* The Eagles took down Brandeis and Carnegie Mellon 4-1 in the first two rounds of the UAA Tournament.
* Emory has taken down six top-10 teams this season including #2 Pomona-Pitzer, #3 Wesleyan (CT), #4 Pomona-Pitzer, #6 Carnegie Mellon, #9 Carnegie Mellon, and #10 Washington and Lee.
* Emily Kantrovitz leads the Eagles with 24 singles wins on the season. She has a 14-2 record at the #1 singles spot.
* The doubles teams of Izzy Antanavicius and Izzy Berman as well as Yanire Marte and Eliza McPherron sit at 18-6 on the year to lead the doubles lineup.
* Kantrovitz, Berman, and Marte all won their singles matches in the regular season meeting in Atlanta. However, in the February match at the ITA Indoor Nationals, the Maroons swept all six singles spots but fell short in doubles to the teams of Antanavicius and Berman as well as Marte and McPherron.

SERIES HISTORY:

* Emory leads the all-time series 19-8 over UChicago.
* This will be the third match of the season between the Maroons and the Eagles with UChicago winning both of the matches earlier this year. The Maroons won 5-2 in the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Nationals, and they won 4-3 in Atlanta, handing Emory their first home loss since 2013.
* The last win by Emory over UChicago came back in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, a 5-0 victory for the Eagles.
