CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The top doubles team for the University of Chicago men's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals on Friday with a win in the Round of 16.

Pat Otero and Andrei Leonov came from behind for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Gage Gohl and Tyler Haddorf from Gustavus Adolphus to avenge a pair of losses earlier in the season to the Gusties. The duo will take on Caleb Settles and Brandon Vu on Saturday afternoon with a trip to the NCAA Semifinals on the line. Leonov and Otero took down Settles and Vu 6-4 in the finals of the ITA Indoor National Championships back on February 23. The duo is the first UChicago doubles team to win a match in the NCAA Tournament since 2022, and they will look to reach the Semifinals with a win on Saturday for the first time since 2019.

In the singles part of the individual tournament, both UChicago players faltered in the opening round with a pair of three-set losses. Emil Grantcharov dropped his match 3-6, 6-4, 6-7(5-7) to Jordan Theron, the #6 overall seed from Sewanee. Alexander Ekstrand also dropped his three-set match to Noah Laber from Middlebury with a 2-6, 6-3, 2-6 loss in the Round of 32.

With the win in the round of 16, Leonov and Otero will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they take on the doubles team from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 5 PM PT in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
