#1 Women's Tennis Opens NCAA Tournament on Home Courts on Friday

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team opens their run at back-to-back National Championships on Friday afternoon as they battle #55 North Central (IL).

#1 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* UChicago enters the weekend with a 20-1 record overall this season.
* The University of Chicago won their fourth consecutive UAA Championship in their last time out on the court, taking down #10 WashU and #2 Emory in route to the title.
* The Maroons have won 15 straight matches, 12 of which came to ranked opponents, and their only loss this season came to Toledo, a Division I opponent, with a 5-2 loss on February 22.
* UChicago won the ITA Indoor National Championships earlier this spring with wins over #18 Sewanee (7-0), #5 Emory (5-2), and #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (4-1).
* Clara Zou leads the Maroons with a 25-2 record in singles play this season after winning the ITA Regional Championship in the fall. She enters the weekend ranked as the #7 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #1 singles player in the Central Region.
* Erica Ekstrand has also added 18 singles wins on the year with just four losses to her name. She enters the weekend ranked as the #8 singles player in NCAA Division III and the #2 singles player in the Central Region.
* Sylwia Mikos and Sarena Biria are also ranked #14 and #37 in NCAA Division III singles play with records of 14-6 and 7-5. The duo is also ranked #5 and #9 in the Central Region.
* Oliwia Mikos and Sylwia Mikos lead the way in doubles with 21 and 20 wins, respectively. The duo is ranked as the #3 doubles team in NCAA Division III this season, and Oliwia is also ranked as the #11 singles player in the Central Region.
* Shianna Guo and Lauren Khou are ranked as the #6 doubles team in the Central Region with a 9-4 record as a tandem this season.
* Zou and Biria round out the doubles rankings at #8 in the Central Region with a record of 6-4 on the year.
* With a win in the second round, the Maroons will advance to the Regional Championship with a spot in the NCAA National Championships on the line.

#55 NORTH CENTRAL (IL) NOTES:

* North Central (IL) enters the NCAA Tournament with a 15-9 record overall and a 7-1 record in the CCIW.
* The Cardinals took down Millikin, Carthage, and Wheaton (IL) en route to winning their fifth consecutive CCIW Tournament title.
* North Central (IL) has won a match in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments with a 4-2 win over Coe on Thrusday.
* The Cardinals have never advanced out of the second round, falling to Middlebury and Carnegie Mellon (twice).
* Abigail Penados leads the team with a 20-6 record in singles play this season. She comes in ranked as the #18 player in the Central Region, and she was selected as the first alternate to qualify for the 2025 Individual National Championships.
* Penados also leads the Cardinals with 20 doubles wins on the season.
* The doubles team of Penados and Natalie Bassett enters the NCAA Tournament ranked as the #7 doubles team in the Central Region.

SERIES HISTORY:

* UChicago has a perfect 5-0 record against North Central College.
* The Maroons have not lost an individual match against the Cardinals, including a 7-0 win earlier this season.
