AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team earned three Academic All-Americans in the 2024-25 season, as released by College Sports Communicators on Wednesday afternoon. Emil Grantcharov and Andrei Leonov each earned 2nd-Team Academic All-American honors, and Pat Otero slotted in as a 3rd-Team Academic All-American.

Emil Grantcharov ends the 2024-25 season ranked as the #19 singles player and as a part of the #18 doubles team in NCAA Division III. The junior from New Rochelle, New York qualified for the DIII National Championships as an individual singles player after compiling a record of 16-10 in singles on the season, and he finished the year 5-5 in singles matches against ranked opponents this season. In the fall, Grantcharov also won the ITA Central Region Doubles Championship, and he was a semifinalist in the ITA Cup Doubles tournament.

Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero capped off their senior seasons with the first Individual National Championship in men's tennis program history, winning the doubles title in California at the end of May. Leonov, a Tampa, Florida native, accumulated a doubles record of 26-9, and Otero, a Pacific Palisades, California native, added a doubles record of 22-7 on the year. The doubles duo capped off the season with an 8-3 record in doubles matches against nationally-ranked opponents. They also finished the postseason run with a 9-0 record, including wins over six top-15 teams in the country.

This trio of Maroons nearly doubles the all-time number of Academic All-Americans in program history from four to seven, and they helped extend the University of Chicago streak to 10 consecutive calendar years and 14 of the past 15 calendar years with an Academic All-American, dating back to 2011. The men's tennis trio also improves the number of Academic All-Americans in 2025 to nine for the Maroons, joining three men's swimmers, two women's swimmers, and one women's tennis player. The nine Academic All-Americans so far in 2025 are the third-most in a single calendar year in the history of UChicago athletics, trailing only 11 in 2020 and 10 in 2022.
