Box Score FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team opened their 2025-26 season on Friday afternoon with the opening day of the Jon Messick Invitational at Colorado State University. The Maroons battled eight Division I programs including Air Force, Colorado State, Montana State, New Mexico State, Utah, Utah State, Weber State, and Wyoming in two doubles matches and one singles matches to open the invitational on Friday.

In doubles play, Charlotte Klein and Oliwia Mikos opened the season with a bang, taking down the top doubles team from Air Force with a 6-3 victory to move to the Championship match of the top doubles flight in the invite. In the Championship match, Klein and Mikos battled the top team from Colorado State and came up short with a 6-2 defeat.

Ariana Liu and Sunny Lu also advanced to the finals of their doubles flight with a 6-3 win over Utah, but Liu and Lu fell short in the Flight H finals with a 6-1 loss to the duo from Wyoming. Lauren Khou and Lily Zawaneh capped off the doubles success for the Maroons with a 7-5 win over Weber State to earn third-place in the second flight.

In singles play, the Maroons were dominant in the top three flights of the lineup with Clara Zou, Sarena Biria, and Brooke Pedersen all winning their matches to open the tournament. Anika Paul added a win in her first career singles match, and Ariana Liu also brought home the fifth and final singles win of the opening day for UChicago.

The Maroons will return to the courts on Saturday in Fort Collins for the second of three days of the Jon Messick Invitational. The UChicago players will play two more doubles matches and the semifinal round singles matches on day two of the invite.
