ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- University of Chicago junior Sarena Biria was named the University Athletic Association Player of the Week, as announced by the association office on Monday afternoon.

Biria became the 8th Maroon in program history to win the ITA Regional Singles title on Monday. En route to the title, Biria took down Monmouth (6-0, 6-1), #9 Hope (6-0, 6-1), WashU (6-3, 3-6, 6-4), and WashU (7-5, 6-1) to advance to the ITA Semifinals.

Then, in the Semifinals, the Kansas City, Kansas native took down her teammate, Anika Paul, in a three-set thriller to earn her spot in the ITA Cup. In the Regional Finals, Biria took down her third WashU opponent of the weekend to bring home the title.

The Player of the Week award is the first of the career for Biria, and she joins Clara Zou as the lone active Maroons to earn UAA Player of the Week honors.

Biria and the rest of the UChicago women's tennis team will return to action on their home courts on October 4-5 as they host the Chicago Cup.
