ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team wrapped up the 2025 ITA Central Regional Tournament on Monday morning with Sarena Biria becoming the eighth player in program history to win the ITA Regional Singles Championship. With the win, Biria has earned her ticket to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia in October later this fall where she will compete against the top players across the country.

In the semifinal match, a pair of Maroons battled it out with a berth in the ITA Cup on the line. After Biria rolled through the first set 6-1, Anika Paul bounced right back with a 6-2 victory in the second set with a pair of broken serves to level the match at one set apiece. In the final set, Biria was able to pick up an early break of serve, and she rode that to the finish as she brought home the win 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.

With the win, Biria advanced to the Regional Championship match against the #6 overall seed, Eliana Hanna from WashU. Biria struggled in the opening set, and Hanna was able to build an early lead with a couple breaks in serve, leading her to a 6-2 victory in the opening set.

Despite dropping the opening set, the tides began to turn in set number two as Biria came up with two breaks of serve of her own to take the second set and level the scoreline at one set a piece. In the final set, both players played great with winners after winners being hit on both sides, but in the end, it was Biria who was able to get the break of serve down the stretch to take the final set 6-4 and win the match.

Following the ITA Regionals, the Maroons will return to action on their home courts on October 4-5 as they host the Chicago Cup.
