1/19/2026 11:00:00 AM

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago softball program has announced the hiring of Alyssa Gonzalez as its new Assistant Coach, effective January 5, 2026.

Gonzalez arrives in Hyde Park following two years as an assistant coach at Beaumont High School in California from 2024-2025.

As a collegiate player at Sacred Heart University from 2019-2023, Gonzalez broke the school record in career home runs (50), total bases (328), and runs batted in (134). She also holds the top three spots in program history in single-season home runs with 17, 13, and 12 in her final three seasons with the Pioneers while completing her career with an unprecedented .641 slugging percentage and 1.041 OPS.

She earned two NFCA All-Region honors and three 1st-Team All-Conference selections as a catcher in the Northeast Conference, and she added NEC Player of the Year honors in 2021.

Head Coach Ruth Kmak expressed her excitement to have Alyssa joining the team this spring by saying, "Our program is excited about the addition of Alyssa to our coaching staff.  Her positive nature and passion for working with student-athletes, along with her desire to help our players reach their highest potential is an asset to our team.  Her proven offensive skill set and background as a catcher provide an excellent backdrop of experience and success to inspire and elevate the competitive experience of our student athletes.

Gonzalez and the University of Chicago softball team open their 2026 campaign on Friday, February 27, as the Maroons travel to California for games against Cal Lutheran, Chapman, and Bridgewater (VA).
