CHICAGO -- University of Chicago sophomore John Butler was named the UAA Men's Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Monday afternoon.
Butler continued his amazing season for the Maroons, stretching his individual event win streak to 18 consecutive events after bringing home four individual event titles and a pair of relay titles on the weekend.
In the meet against DI UIC on Friday night, the sophomore economics and cognitive science double major won the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Medley Relay, and 400 Free Relay to help lead the Maroons to a dual meet win over the Flames.
Then, on Saturday, the Cedar Falls, Iowa native won the 100 Free and 200 Free with times that rank 5th (44.09) and 3rd (1:37.12) in the UAA this season.
The Athlete of the Week award is the third UAA award of his career and the 2025-26 season. The sophomore also added Swimcloud National Athlete of the Week honors earlier this year.
Butler and the rest of the UChicago men's swimming & diving team will return to action on January 31 as the Maroons hit the road for just the second time this season for their final UAA tune-up at Hope College.
