CHICAGO -- University of Chicago freshman Maksim Mukhamedaliyev was named the UAA Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Monday afternoon.

Mukhamedaliyev was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament at the Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday after winning the invitational with a perfect 4-0 record.

After a pair of pins and a major decision victory on his way to the final, the Arlington Heights, Illinois native set up a match with Tyler Starr, a returning National Championship qualifier from a season ago, from North Central (IL).

In the final, the freshman applied mathematics and computer science double major tallied three nearfalls en route to an 18-3 tech fall over the defending national qualifier to win the title. The tournament title makes Mukhamedaliyev a perfect 5-5 in first-place finishes at invitationals in his college career, and he improves to 29-4 in his freshman season.

The Athlete of the Week award is the second of the career for Mukhamedaliyev, and it marks the fifth time this season that the University of Chicago earned the UAA Wrestler of the Week honor.

Mukhamedaliyev and the rest of the UChicago wrestling team will return to action this weekend with a trio of dual meets. The Maroons will battle #7 North Central (IL) in a top-15 showdown in Naperville on Saturday afternoon. Then, on Sunday, UChicago will travel to North Manchester, Indiana, for a pair of matches against Marian-Ancilla and Manchester.
