ADRIAN, Mich. -- The 13th-ranked University of Chicago wrestling team competed in a challenging slate of matches at the Stormin' Norman Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Jack Lentz bought home the lone first-place finish for the Maroons with a perfect 3-0 weekend in the 184-pound weight class. Lentz earned a pair of first-period pins in the opening two rounds to advance to the championship match, and he added a 13-1 major decision victory in the finals to earn the title.
Nolan Pozzobon and
Cole Joseph each added second-place finishes in the meet. Joseph added a second-period pin in his first match over Upper Iowa, and he added an 18-3 technical fall victory to bring home second-place in the meet. Pozzobon dropped his first match 18-9 to start the day, but he bounced back with a first-period pin over Carthage and a 17-7 major decision win to earn second place in the round robin.
Mark Lynott brought home a fourth-place finish in the meet with a pair of technical fall victories, 17-0 over UW-Oshkosh and 15-0 over Triton. Then, following a first-period pin in the semifinals, he came up short with a 12-6 decision to finish fourth.
Zachary Parisi and Samuel Szerlip added fifth-place finishes in the meet. After an opening round pin to knock Parisi into the consolation bracket, he responded with back-to-back first-period pins over Harper and UW-Oshkosh to reach the fifth-place match. He then earned a 22-6 technical fall win to bring home the placement finish. After Szerlip fell in the opening round of his weight class, he added a 17-0 technical fall win over Harper College and a pin in just 48 seconds to bring home the fifth-place finish.
The Maroons return to the mat next weekend as the Maroons travel to Wheaton for the Pete Willson Tournament. The tournament will take place on both Friday and Saturday with the matches beginning at 11 AM CT each day.
