CHICAGO -- University of Chicago freshman Maksim Mukhamedaliyev earned his second consecutive UAA Wrestler of the Week award, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Monday afternoon.
Mukhamedaliyev earned a 9-0 major decision victory over the #4 wrestler in Region V, Tyler Starr, at the 149-pound weight class to help the Maroons pick up a 24-14 victory over #8 North Central (IL) on Saturday. The win for UChicago marked the first time since 2017 that the Cardinals have lost a home dual.
The win for the #12 nationally-ranked wrestler also improved the career record of the Arlington Heights, Illinois native to 30-4 overall and 9-4 against regionally-ranked opponents.
The Athlete of the Week award is the third of the career for Mukhamedaliyev, and it marks the sixth time this season that the University of Chicago earned the UAA Wrestler of the Week honor.
Mukhamedaliyev and the rest of the UChicago wrestling team will return to action this weekend for one of their most competitive meets of the season as the Maroons travel to Wheaton (IL) for the Pete Willson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
