#4 Men's Swimming & Diving Roll Past #20 Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The fourth-ranked University of Chicago men's swimming and diving team earned a top-10 victory over #10 Hope College on Saturday afternoon. 

The Maroons took home a first-place finishes in all but one event against the Dutch. 

Danyal Ghadiali swept the diving events for the Maroons. In the 1-meter, Ghadiali scored a 260.50, almost 20 points more than the next competitor. In the 3-meter, Ghadiali and Zachray Berg took home first and second place, as Berg scored within three points of Ghadiali. Together, they outscored their competitors by almost a margin of 15 points. 

Ethan Taylor picked up three wins, two in individual events, in his day at Hope. The freshman recorded first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. For his third win of the day, Taylor claimed first with Armand Pierre Chan, Cooper Costello, and John Butler in the 200 medley relay by over two seconds. 

John Butler and Cooper Costello joined in on the multi-win action, combining for two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes in their individual events. Butler recorded a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle while Costello finished second. In the 100 backstroke, the two switched places as Costello took home the top finish with a time of 50.00 flat.

The men also swept both relays. In addition to the win in the 200 medley, the Maroons captured the top finish in the 400 freestyle relay as Taiki Ishikawa, Misha Kojanov, Winston Wang, and Ryan Lobo recorded a time of 3:07.15. 

With the win, the Maroons improve to 7-1 on the season. UChicago will return to the pool in two weeks as it prepares to host the UAA Championships starting on Wednesday, February 11. For more information on the championships, visit our 2026 UAA Championships page here
