Stagg Field Construction

Stagg Field Construction

With renovations underway at Stagg Field (850 E. 56th St.) that will enhance the game day experience for coaches, student-athletes, and spectators starting in the fall of 2024, the University of Chicago Department of Athletics & Recreation has announced changes to the current viewing experience for the remainder of the spring 2024 season.

Initial stages of the renovation have begun with the removal of the spectator bleachers on the west side of the field. Because of this, the main entrance to Stagg Field on 56th Street is now closed for women’s lacrosse contests, and fans will now access the temporary seating area through a gate further east on 56th Street behind the south endzone of the field. Bleachers have been set up on the east side of the Ted Haydon Track opposite the team benches, and fans are welcome to bring lawn chairs to use within the designated seating area. However, because of the location of the fan area on the track surface, no outside food or drink besides water will be allowed in. Seating locations may be altered on days where lacrosse and baseball are both playing at home to protect fans from possible foul balls that may enter Stagg Field from J. Kyle Anderson Field. Access to the permanent restroom facilities with also be restricted but portable lavatories will be available during games for guests to use.

For men’s and women’s tennis, the construction area limits viewing to just the first and second courts within the Stagg Field premises. Fans are welcome to view all courts through the fence from the sidewalk located on South Cottage Grove Avenue. However, the property outside of Stagg Field belongs to the City of Chicago and is not associated with the University of Chicago. Guests will not have direct access to Maroon facilities or staff if an incident were to occur.

These changes will impact all women’s lacrosse contests through the end of the 2023-24 school year as well as men’s and women’s tennis matches that will be played on the Stagg Field tennis courts. If these new policies need to be altered, changes will be announced via our website and social media channels.
