GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Chicago sophomore Cooper Costello captured the national championship in the men's 100-yard butterfly to kick off the second day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday.

Costello's victory marked the 31st NCAA individual championship in the school's Division III era. The Maroon sophomore also became the second-consecutive UChicago swimmer to win the 100-yard Butterfly National Championship, joining Jesse Ssengonzi from 2024.

Costello started the day strong in the 100 Butterfly prelims as he earned the top seed in the event with a time or 46.44. In the finals, he pulled away from the field and won the NCAA Division III National Championship by over 0.50 seconds with an all-time NCAA record time of 45.97.
