Joe Tolnai enters his 15th year as the Assistant Wrestling Coach at the University of Chicago in the 2025-26 academic year.
In his time at the University of Chicago, Tolnai has coached four UAA championship teams, seven individual NCAA All-Americans, and nearly 200 student-athletes.
An Illinois native, Tolnai competed at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. at heavyweight. He earned a varsity letter seven times (four in wrestling /three in football) at Augustana and notched 82 collegiate victories during his time as a Viking.
Tolnai has a BA in Speech Communication from Augustana. When he is not coaching, he enjoys spending time with his family and leading software engineering organizations. His expertise in IT systems provides instrumental support to both the coaching staff and athletes.
