Anicia Mattingly enters her seventh year as an athletic trainer at the University of Chicago during the 2025–26 academic year.
She currently serves as the primary athletic trainer for the football, wrestling, and baseball teams. During her time at UChicago, she has also served as the primary athletic trainer for the women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse teams.
Anicia earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from North Central College in the spring of 2017. During her four years at North Central, she was a member of the women’s lacrosse team. She also completed an internship with the Northwestern University football team during the fall 2016 season as a key component of her clinical requirements in the athletic training program.
After becoming a certified athletic trainer, Anicia enrolled in the post-professional athletic training program at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She graduated with a Master of Science in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in athletic training, in the spring of 2019. While completing her degree, she served as a certified graduate assistant athletic trainer for the men’s and women’s cross country and track teams. Additionally, during the summers of 2017 and 2018, she worked as the primary athletic trainer for the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. This experience sparked her interest in non-traditional settings and inspired her graduate research, An Epidemiology of Concussions in Drum and Bugle Corps, which she presented at the Indiana University School of Public Health Research Day in April 2019.
In addition to being a licensed and certified athletic trainer, Anicia earned her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the NSCA in 2020. She has also completed Level 1 and Level 2 BFR (Blood Flow Restriction) training through Smart Tools and holds certification in the M1 Graston Technique.
