Jason Weber enters his 20th year as the Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach at the University of Chicago in the 2025-26 academic year.
During his 16-year tenure, Weber has guided the men's team to a 71-40 mark in dual meets while compiling a 80-33 mark with the women's squad.
Weber's teams, which have been nationally-ranked each of the past 16 seasons, have produced 431 All-American and 556 All-University Athletic Association performances since 2007. Weber's swimmers and divers hold all 48 UChicago school records.
Coach Weber led his 2024-35 squad to another historic season.The men's swimming and diving team finished third nationally at the NCAA Division III Championships, winning four national titles—including Cooper Costello’s NCAA record in the 100-yard butterfly—and setting multiple school and NCAA records. The women’s team placed seventh, earning 20 All-American honors and breaking seven school records, led by Elisabella Forest’s standout backstroke performances. Both teams also recieved multiple Scholar All-American recognition.Â
In the 2023-24 season, the Maroons finished near the top at the UAA Championships with multiple individual and relay titles. At the NCAA Division III Championships, the Maroons earned several All-American honors, highlighted by standout performances from Cooper Costello and Veronica Fong in butterfly and diving events.Â
Chicago swimming and diving had a standout 2022-23 season, with both the men’s and women’s teams earning national recognition. The men led the UAA Championships heading into the final day, highlighted by Jesse Ssengonzi’s conference record in the 100 fly and a win in the 200 medley relay. At nationals, the Maroons collected 14 All-American honors, including top finishes in relays and individual events. On the women’s side, Karen Zhao and Emily Xu led the way with podium finishes and record-breaking swims, contributing to multiple All-American and All-UAA accolades.
The historic 2021-22 season featured a sixth-place finish by the women and a seventh-place showing by the men at the NCAA Division III Championships. Six Maroon men won a school-record four individual national titles: Winston Chen (400-yard Medley Relay); Garrett Clasen (200-yard IM / 400-yard Medley Relay); Arthur Kiselnikov (400-yard Medley Relay) and Jesse Ssengonzi (100-yard Butterfly / 400-yard Medley Relay). The UChicago women also won a national championship with Elizabeth Cron on the one-meter dive. In total, 30 Maroons picked up 63 All-American awards. Garrett Clasen was voted UAA Men's Swimmer of the Year and Elizabeth Cron was named UAA Women's Diver of the Year. Weber and his coaching staff were voted as UAA Men's Swimming Coaching Staff of the Year.
In 2019, the Maroons submitted their highest team placings ever at the NCAA Championships, as the women took sixth and the men captured eighth. Byrne Litschgi won the NCAA national title in the men's 200-yard backstroke. All told, 24 Maroons collected 52 All-American awards.
The 2018 Maroons totaled 14 All-Americans who earned 31 All-American honors. The men's (12th) and women's (14th) squads finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships for the fifth-straight year.
After a two-year stint as the assistant men’s coach at Chicago from 2004-06, Weber was elevated to the head coaching position for the men’s and women’s programs in June 2006. During his tenure as the men’s assistant, the Maroons enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in the past 18 years.
Prior to his arrival at Chicago in the fall of 2004, Weber served as a sport partnership intern for the United States Olympic Committee in 2003 and as an assistant age group coach for Conejo Simi Aquatics in Thousand Oaks, California, from October 2002 to August 2003.
Weber, who also serves as Chicago’s aquatics director, is a 2002 graduate of Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He was a four-year member of the Brown swimming team and in 2000 competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials. He received a master’s degree in sports management from the University of San Francisco in 2004.
