UChicago Football Dominates Beloit 66-0

BELOIT, Wis. – The University of Chicago football team imposed its will on Saturday afternoon and controlled all aspects of the game to defeat Beloit College 66-0 on the road.

The Maroons improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Midwest Conference. The Bucs fell to 0-3 (0-2 MWC).

The 66 points scored matched the program's modern-era record (1969-present), which was set just last week in a 66-14 home win over Illinois College. It is the most points scored by Maroon football since the 1919 season.

UChicago ended up posting 14 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second, 21 in the third and 17 in the fourth.

The final stats displayed the dominant effort by the Maroons. They outgained Beloit 598 to 34 in total offense. The Bucs ran the ball for -15 net rushing yards while UChicago averaged 6.8 yards per carry for a total of 374 yards. The offense threw for 224 yards against 49 passing yards by Beloit.

First downs were a particularly striking category: 39 for UChicago and two for Beloit. The Maroons converted 87 percent of their third downs.

Defensively, the Maroons mauled the Bucs for 10 tackles for loss and four sacks. They also forced a pair of fumbles, and senior defensive lineman Chris Murphy picked off a pass and returned it for a 25-yard touchdown. The Bucs went 0-for-11 on third-down conversions.

Senior quarterback Philip Martini threw for four touchdowns on the day, with three of them to senior wide receiver Matt Quaglia. Senior wideout Elliott Grays hauled in the other touchdown catch. The running game featured touchdowns by senior Nicholas D'Ambrose, first-year Kyle James, first-year Marcelo Alanis and first-year Frankie Lonergan. Sophomore kicker Will Goodman added a 20-yard field goal as well.
