MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The University of Chicago men's tennis team defeated NAIA opponent Cardinal Stritch University 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 2-ranked Maroons improved to 11-1 on the season.
With Division I scoring rules being utilized, the doubles point went to UChicago after wins at No. 2 (Pat Otero/Andrei Leonov) and No. 3 (Alex Guzhva/Jacob Lowen).
The Maroons then went on to capture four of the six singles bouts. Guzhva, Leonov and Marek Michulka earned straight-set wins at third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Christian Alshon prevailed in a third-set super tiebreak at the No. 1 position.
"The men showed some incredible toughness today in dealing with some last-minute roster adjustments," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "Credit to them for practicing hard all season and being ready when their names were called. We lost to Stritch the last time we played so this is a really good win for us, especially shorthanded."
