HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. No. 10 New York University
- First up for the University of Chicago (7-13, 3-4 UAA) was a No. 10 New York University (20-4, 5-2 UAA) team that still has their sights set on a chance for the conference title.
- The Maroons were within striking distance in each set, especially the first contest when they were tied 20-20 before the Violets pulled away with a 25-22 win. Unfortunately, 15 errors over the next two stanzas hampered their chances at extending the game beyond the minimum three sets.
- Thalita Marangon led the Maroons with nine kills in the match. Kennedy Cheung also contributed with 12 digs and Diya Mishra had two blocks and two aces in the losing effort.
- vs. (RV) Case Western Reserve
- The second match of the day for UChicago was a different story. The close matches that they couldn't capitalize on against NYU finally fell their way against as Case Western Reserve (17-7, 3-4 UAA) team that was receiving votes in the national poll.
- The Maroons had nine errors in each set but still found a way to convert on the offensive end with a total of 50 kills in the match. Meanwhile, they held the Spartans to just 33 of their own and outhit them .163 to .136. The lead changed hands just once in both the first and second sets, and while it took eight ties and seven lead changes in the last frame, UChicago was still able to seal the deal on the straight sets sweep.
- Mishra took home top kill honors in the match with 20 while Jillian Amsler had three blocks and Maya Patel contributed with 43 assists.
WHO'S ON DECK
