Women's Soccer Exits NCAA's In 2OT Loss

DUBUQUE, Iowa – (RV) University of Chicago women's soccer took on host No. 21 Loras in the second round of the NCAA tournament looking to advance to the next weekend of play. Trying to break their five-game tie streak, the Maroons went into overtime for the second contest in a row but saw their season eventually come to an end thanks to a Duhawk OT1 tally on Sunday evening.

RESULT – NCAA TOURNAMENT SECOND ROUND *OVERTIME*
(RV) University of Chicago – 1
No. 21 Loras – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Host No. 21 Loras (18-1-1) struck first in the second-round meeting, taking a 1-0 lead after just ten minutes of play but (RV) University of Chicago (9-3-8) wasn't deterred. The Maroons kept pushing and found the equalizer 21 minutes later when Josie Majowka scored her third of the season in the 32nd minute.
  • The Maroons kept the pressure on in the second half and outshot the Duhawks 9-4 but neither team could push the ball past the others keeper. UChicago outshot LC in the first overtime frame as well by two attempts 3-1. Unfortunately, the lone strike that Loras got off found it's way past, putting the Maroons down by one with 15 minutes left.
  • Chicago didn't let up and ended up with a 23-14 shot differential. It didn't matter though as the Maroons couldn't pull even for the second time in the contest and saw their season end in a 2-1 2OT defeat.
