HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. No. 4 Carnegie Mellon
- University of Chicago (11-16) opened the UAA tournament with a battle against fourth seeded Carnegie Mellon. The contest was about as even as their conference records and was a match that could have gone either way.
- The Maroons took the first set in extra points 26-24 which wouldn't be the last time that score popped up. A single error by the Tartans allowed them to grab the second frame 25-19, but a total of 23 kills dealt UChicago victories in sets three and four by scores of 25-22 and 26-24 respectively to advance in the winner's bracket.
- Diya Mishra led all players with 16 kills while Maya Patel had three blocks to go along with 34 assists.
- vs. No. 1 Emory
- With the win against Carnegie Mellon, the Maroons had a chance to advance to the UAA championship game when they went against top seeded Emory. Unfortunately, the Eagles were able to put away Chicago in straight sets.
- The Maroons began the match with a 25-20 loss before a .029 hitting percentage doomed them to their worst loss of the weekend 25-15. UChicago didn't let that stop them from fighting back and trying to extend the game though. 14 kills powered the Maroons into extra points but four more by the Eagles secured their 3-0 victory via a 27-25 score.
- Maggie McInerney paced the Maroons with 11 slams and Kennedy Cheung was the team leader with 12 digs.
- vs. No. 6 Case Western Reserve
- With day one over, the Maroons picked back up the next morning against No. 6 Case Western Reserve in hopes of claiming third place in the tournament. The match went back and forth but it was the Spartans that were able to pull out the win in five sets.
- CWRU started off the match with a 25-21 win before the Maroons came back with victories in the second (25-17) and third (25-21) frames. With a chance to close things out, a set where both teams had eight errors fell in favor of the Spartans 25-23 who were then able to win the tiebreaker 15-12.
- McInerney led all players with 19 kills in the season finale while Klaudia Barbarossa had two aces.
