HOW IT HAPPENED
- University of Chicago (5-4, 5-3 MWC) began the action on Saturday against host Grinnell (2-7, 2-6 MWC) by using nine plays to go 57 yards to score on their first drive of the game capped off by a 16-yard pass from Jack Ruff to Brendan Kang.
- Up 7-0 entering the second quarter, the Maroons doubled their lead with a short yardage Kyle James run before the Pioneers got on the board to cut their deficit back in half. The two teams traded another pair of touchdowns before the intermission with a Ruff 12-yard pass to Rhys Bommarito-Logan allowing UChicago to keep their seven-point lead entering the second half.
- The 14 points the Pioneers scored in the second stanza would be all the points they would receive all game. The Maroons dominated the final two quarters, including a big third period where they scored 20 points off two Bommarito-Logan runs and another rushing touchdown from James.
- The Maroons would add one last score in the fourth when Teddy Gouldin connected with AJ Markett from the five-yard line to give Chicago a 34-point lead.
- The UChicago defense certainly did their job in another blowout victory. Seven Maroon players registered at least four tackles with both Seamus Kelly and Stirling Sakashita leading the way in double digits during a 48-14 win.
