Schuster's Two Goal Game Powers #21 Men's Soccer Past WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – With a big win against No. 6 Emory under their belts one week ago, the University of Chicago men's soccer team looked to try and keep that forward momentum going when they traveled to take on Washington University (Mo.) in their regular season finale. A scoreless first half was no problem for the Maroons as they'd go on to score two goals in less than a minute to brush aside the Bears on Saturday.

RESULT
#21 University of Chicago – 2
Washington University (Mo.) – 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Things were slow to get going in St. Louis as No. 21 University of Chicago (9-2-5, 4-1-2 UAA) and WashU (7-8-1, 2-5 UAA) had issues with putting together a consistent offensive attack. There were only seven total shots in the opening 45 minutes of play, with the Bears owning four of those attempts. With scoring at a premium, both teams entered halftime in a scoreless draw.
  • The Maroons picked things up after the break though and sent shot after shot towards the WashU net. UChicago directed 13 balls towards the Bears end of the field in the second period and finally got one to go when Ryan Yetishefsky set up David Schuster in the 67th minute to make it 1-0 good guys.
  • Having liked his first goal so much, Schuster decided to do it again when he used a Ricky Kai assist to put the Maroons up 2-0 exactly 50 seconds after his first strike. On the other side of the ball, the Chicago defense held strong and limited the Bears to just four attempts in the frame to keep the home team scoreless.
  • Will Boyes got the start in goal and stopped both shots that came his way before he stepped aside to let Nate Drew close things out between the pipes in UChicago's 2-0 win over WashU for their fourth UAA victory of the season.
