Tough Final Frame Seals Women's Basketball's Fate

GALLATIN, Tenn. – University of Chicago women's basketball went into Saturday looking to get back in the win column and wrap up the 2023 D3 Music City Classic on a high note when they took on (RV) Bowdoin. The Maroons kept things close all game long but a rough fourth quarter didn't allow them to attempt a comeback in a double-digit loss to the Polar Bears outside of Nashville.

FINAL SCORE
No. 11 UChicago – 67
(RV) Bowdoin - 81

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Friday afternoon's game against No. 23 Johns Hopkins was a back-and-forth affair and so was the No. 11 University of Chicago's (7-4) contest against (RV) Bowdoin (10-1). A game that saw five ties and seven lead changes was just a four-point affair at halftime as the Maroons were outscored by two in each of the first two quarters.
  • That four-point Polar Bears advantage turned into a UChicago eight-point deficit after three frames thanks to Bowdoin shooting 60 percent in the period and making four shots from three-point land. The Maroons didn't have an issue shooting in the first 30 minutes, but their long-distance game was off all afternoon with Chicago missing 15 of their 23 attempts from behind the arc.
  • Down by just eight with ten minutes left to play, the UChicago offense went cold in the fourth and made just 12.5 percent of their shots. A 12-point quarter won't set the world on fire, but the Polar Bears were able to secure the win with the Maroons tallying just six points in the last stanza in what would turn out to be a 14-point defeat.
