AURORA, Ill. – University of Chicago's women's volleyball team opened up 2023 with a sweep of Macalester College on Friday evening.
The Maroons won by set scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-20, respectively, in their first match of the season on Day One of the Aurora Invitational.
UChicago had three players with double digit kills as
Maggie McInerney,
Diya Mishra and first-year
Thalita Marangon each totaled 10. McInerney and Marangon each attacked at over .400 and combined for kills and just one error.
Klaudia Barbarossa anchored the back line with 21 digs, an average of 7.0 per set.
Maya Patel and Hilary Cheung combined for 33 assists. As a team, the Maroons outhit Macalester with nine more kills and a .299 attack percentage.
Chicago takes on Cornell and Aurora at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow to conclude their lid-lifting weekend.
