CHICAGO – University of Chicago's football program suffered a 24-15 defeat to visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday afternoon on Stagg Field.
The Maroons erased an early 10-0 deficit with 15 unanswered points and held a five-point lead late into the second quarter. CMS responded with a long touchdown drive to end the half and took a 17-15 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, both offenses were held down by timely defensive plays for much of the final two quarters. The Stags, however, scored on a big play late in the third quarter with a 73-yard touchdown pass to put themselves ahead 24-15.
Neither team could muster any more offense in the final frame as CMS notched the 24-15 victory on the road.
Jack Ruff passed for 196 yards and one touchdown to lead the offensive effort.

The Maroons totaled 13 first downs to CMS' 10 and outgained the Stags 284-235.
UChicago hits the road to begin Midwest Conference (MWC) play on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Monmouth. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
