CHICAGO – University of Chicago's women's volleyball program opened the Gargoyle Classic in style with a sweep of Colby College on Friday night inside the Ratner Athletics Center.
UChicago erased an early deficit in the opening set, winning 25-15, and continued to surge, winning the final two frames by scores of 25-15 and 25-18, respectively.
The Maroon offense attacked at a .327 clip, racking up 38 kills while making just five errors.
Maggie McInerney had 14 kills to lead the attack, hitting .382.
Thalita Marangon had nine kills and zero errors at a .500 clip.
Maya Patel dished out 24 assists and had 18 digs, adding three blocks. As a team, the Maroons had seven blocks to Colby's zero. UChicago held the Mules to a negative hitting percentage in 2-of-3 sets.
UChicago takes on Stevens and North Park at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, to conclude the Gargoyle Classic.
