CHICAGO – University of Chicago's top-ranked men's soccer program celebrated its 2022 National Championship in style with a 4-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroons honored the members of the 2022 National Championship team pregame with a ceremony, featuring the presentation of commemorative rings to the group. Although UChicago fell behind 1-0 early, another strong offensive effort resulted in four unanswered goals and a 4-1 win in its home opener.
Robbie Pino provided the equalizer in the 38
th minute to knot the score at 1-all into the halftime break.
Danny Mendoza broke the deadlock in the 70
th minute, scoring on an assist from
Ryan Yetishefsky. The Maroons surged forward from that point as
Jack Leuker netted in the 76th minute and
Evan Kanellos scored his first UChicago goal in the 84th to secure the result for the Maroons.
UChicago has now scored 10 combined goals in its first three matches. The Maroons continue their tough non-conference slate with a matchup at No. 22 North Park University on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
