Men's Basketball Stung By Rochester

CHICAGO – Winners in six of their last seven contests, (RV) University of Chicago entered the week receiving votes in the national polls and looked to gain more with the two games on their docket this weekend starting with University of Rochester. Unfortunately, the Maroons were hampered by poor shooting in both halves against the Yellowjackets and fell for the first time in UAA play this season.

FINAL SCORE
Rochester – 68
(RV) UChicago – 61

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (RV) University of Chicago (9-4, 1-1 UAA) saw themselves quickly go down by almost double figures in the first half of their contest against University of Rochester (8-5, 2-0 UAA) but also saw themselves climb out of that hole just as quickly when they went on a 10-0 run to take the lead at 13-11.
  • The two teams battled back and forth for a period of time but tied at 20-20, each fell into a scoring drought that lasted over four minutes. The Yellowjackets finally broke the silence and ended the period by tallying 13 of the last 20 points to take a two-possession advantage into the second half.
  • Stanza number two also got off to a rocky start for the Maroons but this time there would be no run to bring them back to the positive side of the lead. The Yellowjackets took advantage of UChicago shooting just 31.4 percent from the field in the half to run their lead to as much as 13 numerous times.
  • The Maroons tried to get back into it late however and drew within six with just 55 seconds left on the clock after a layup that counted for two of Alexander Battist's team leading 13 points. However, that would be as close as they would get in a seven point loss on Friday.
