CHICAGO – (RV) University of Chicago welcomed Carnegie Mellon to the Ratner Athletic Center on Sunday as the team celebrated the workers of the UChicago Healthcare System during Full-Court Care Day. The Maroons made sure to provide them with quite the show and used high scoring performances from two of their leaders to down the Tartans by 14.
FINAL SCORE
Carnegie Mellon – 58
(RV) UChicago – 72
HOW IT HAPPENED
- (RV) University of Chicago (12-6, 5-2 UAA) started the contest off by making 50 percent of their shots in the opening quarter of the contest, three of which came from behind the three-point line, allowing them to end the first up by six over Carnegie Mellon (10-8, 2-5 UAA). Nine of their 21 points in the frame was scored by Marissa Powe who also went 2-for-2 from behind the arc.
- The Tartans defense stepped up in the second however and forced the Maroons to miss 17 shots. CMU outscored Chicago 17-12 in the quarter but it wasn't enough to stop the home team from going into the break still up by a single tally.
- UChicago didn't fully course correct their offense in the third, but the defense stepped up and limited the Tartans to a game low ten points in the stanza. Powe scored another six that went to her career high total of 23 to take a sizeable lead once again with ten minutes left to play.
- UC was productive when it mattered most and went 11-for-18 from the field in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for the visitors. Sophia North's layup with 36 seconds left gave them their largest advantage of the night at 16 and the Tartans final deficit wouldn't be far off from that. The Maroons are now winners in five of their last six contests with the 72-58 victory over the Tartans.
