First Half Goals Upend Men's Soccer At Home

CHICAGO – After securing their first win of the month on Saturday at NYU, University of Chicago men's soccer welcomed No. 9 North Park looking to make it two in a row. The two Chicagoland teams went to battle but a pair of first half goals put the Vikings on top and ultimately handed them a 3-1 win over the Maroons on Wednesday night at Stagg Field.

RESULT
No. 9 North Park – 3
UChicago – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was two quick goals by No. 9 North Park (10-1-4) that put the University of Chicago (6-6-1) into any early hole in the first half. The Vikings got their first one in the ninth minute before doubling their lead less than ten minutes later at 16:38.
  • The Vikings outshot the Maroons 7-2 in the half with neither of the UChicago attempts ending up on net. The visitors extended their lead by another goal just two and a half minutes into the second frame but that's when U of C would mount an attempted comeback.
  • UChicago outshot NPU 8-3 in the final 45 minutes and cut into the Vikings lead when Lyndon Hu put a free kick into the back of the next in the 51st minute. However, even with the intensified offensive pressure, the North Park keeper assembled five saves to keep the score at 3-1 and hand the Maroons a loss to begin their four game homestand.
