UChicago Concludes Season in Elite Eight with 1-0 Loss to WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Chicago women's soccer team's season ended in the NCAA Division III Elite Eight on Sunday with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Washington University in St. Louis at Francis Olympic Field. With the victory, WashU advances to the National Semifinal.

The tightly contested match saw a stalemate through the first half, with both defenses prevailing. UChicago goalkeeper Sophie Pilarski shined, making eight saves, including several crucial stops against a relentless WashU attack.

The decisive moment came in the 80th minute when Olivia Clemons of WashU broke through, sending a low shot into the left corner of the net. Despite a late offensive push, including a key opportunity from Ashley Hayase in the 80th minute and another attempt by Kaitlyn Gomez in the 88th, the Maroons were unable to convert.

Throughout the match, UChicago demonstrated resilience, particularly on defense. The team managed to fend off a strong WashU offense, which fired 11 shots on goal, but the Maroons were unable to capitalize on their own five-shot attempts.

The Maroons conclude their season with a 13-7-2 overall record, marking another impressive campaign under the program's history.
