HOW IT HAPPENED
- University of Chicago (5-3, 5-2 MWC) got off to a fast start on the road, as senior quarterback Teddy Gouldin connected with graduate wideout Mozes Mooney and junior tight end Mackey Keenan on touchdown passes of 4 and 6 yards respectively to stake the Maroons out to a 14-0 lead less than 10 minutes in. Lawrence (1-7, 1-6 MWC) responded with a 6-yard rushing score of their own late in the opening quarter, capitalizing on a short field due to a Maroons' turnover. At the end of the first quarter of play, UChicago led the Vikings 14-7.
- After surrendering the late touchdown in the opening frame, the Maroons took complete control of the contest and scored the game's next 43 points. Mooney reeled in his second touchdown reception of the night on a 7-yard strike 5 minutes into the second, and senior running back Kyle James followed up with a 45-yard endzone dash 3 minutes later. First-year Walter Kilgore split the uprights on a 25-yard chip shot field goal with 9 seconds remaining in the first half to cap off a 17-point second quarter, and UChicago went into halftime ahead 30-7.
- In the third quarter, the Maroons' offense showed no signs of fatigue and tacked on another 17 points. Junior defensive back Stirling Sakashita recorded his second interception in as many games less than 1 minute into the third, and the visitors' offense seized momentum from there. First-year running back Miles Parlet found the endzone on a 6-yard plunge with 7:39 remaining in the third frame, and Mooney snagged his season-best third touchdown of the game 3 minutes later. Kilgore pitched in with another short field goal to make the score 47-7 UChicago heading into the final quarter.
- The game's final 15 minutes saw senior transfer running back Tim Vestuto take center stage. Vestuto had just 44 yards rushing on 11 touches coming into the game, but he broke free on a 59-yard touchdown run with just over 7 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The senior then added another touchdown on a 24-yard scamper with less than 2 minutes remaining to bring the Maroons' offensive total to 64 points. Multiple UChicago players registered career games including Vestuto (100 rushing yards), James (140 rushing yards), Mooney (3 touchdown receptions), and Gouldin (4 touchdown passes). Overall, it wound up being a night to remember for the Maroons as they departed Appleton with a 64-14 win.
