ALBION, Mich. – University of Chicago women's basketball hit the road for a weekend non-conference game at Albion College. Coming off the win against No. 13 Carroll, the Maroons continued their hot start to take down the Britons and extend their record to 7-0.
FINAL SCORE
Albion – 47
(RV) UChicago - 66
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A jumper by Kate Gross opened the scoring for the game as Chicago easily settled into their offensive rhythm. They went on to maintain a steady lead as a fastbreak finish by Sophia North pushed UChicago up by 10 for the 18-8 lead. When Chicago finds their rhythm fast, they've become a dominant team.
- Back-to-back layups within the first five minutes of the second quarter forced the Britons to put in a new lineup, though that didn't disrupt the flow of the Maroons. As they capitalized on turnovers and shots at the line, a free-throw by Annabelle Spotts put UChicago to their highest lead in the first half at 13. 34-26
- Chicago outscored Albion 34-26 in the next two quarters. In that second half, Chicago shot 52% from the field going 12-23, and an impressive 45% from the three. The only area the Maroons struggled was at the free throw line.
- Sophia North added on to the team's terrific shooting day posting 13 points, going 3-6 from behind the arc. Gross finished with 12 and Annabelle Spotts contributed 10 points of her own. Nine of the 10 Maroons that entered the game put points on the board.
