ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Chicago men's basketball looked to close the regular season off on the right foot when they traveled to take on WashU to wrap up UAA play. The Maroons held a slight lead heading into the second half but the Bears hit a few more baskets from deep which allowed them to sneak by with the three point win.
FINAL SCORE
UChicago – 58
(RV) WashU – 61
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Things were looking bright for University of Chicago (13-12, 5-9 UAA) to begin their game against Washington University (18-7, 8-6 UAA) as the Maroons started off the contest on a 9-0 run. Though the Bears would get close to the lead several times in the opening frame, they'd only hold it once as UChicago took a two-point advantage heading into the locker rooms.
- A mini WashU run allowed the home team to grab a five-point lead after a few minutes of action in the second half, but the Maroons hung right with the Bears and led by one with just over 1:20 left to play.
- Field goals and shooting percentage in the back half of the contest were almost identical except for the three-point department. The Maroons only hit one while WashU sunk four which gave them the slight boost they needed. A jumper with 47 seconds left and a layup 30 ticks later allowed WashU to squeak by the Maroons in both team's regular season finale.
