ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Chicago women's basketball headed into their regular season finale looking for a win to improve their case for an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. However, a poor second quarter got in the way and a fourth period comeback came up short in the Maroons loss to WashU on the road.
FINAL SCORE
UChicago – 58
WashU – 75
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Things were going smoothly to begin the game between University of Chicago (16-9, 9-5 UAA) and Washington University (17-8, 10-4 UAA) and the Maroons only trailed by two heading into the second. However, that is where things got off track.
- UChicago only netted five points on 11 percent shooting from the field in that frame which allowed the Bears to build up a 13-point lead with just 20 minutes left in the regular season.
- The Maroons didn't lay down though and they battled until the end like they have done all season long. They were able to shave three points off the WashU advantage in the third and got back within six with 4:42 left to play but the home team was too much in the end in a 17-point UChicago loss.
