JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The beginning of the season hasn't been too kind to University of Chicago baseball but Friday served as a chance to start anew when they began Midwest Conference play against Illinois College. The Maroons made sure to begin MWC action on the right foot with an offensive thrashing of the Blueboys to start their three game Easter weekend series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- University of Chicago (2-13, 1-0 MWC) has been saddled with early deficits during their losing streak and the same thing happened this afternoon when the Blueboys plated a pair in the bottom of the second inning. However, it was how the Maroons responded that made today's game different.
- The UChicago bats exploded for eight runs in the third with the frame being highlighted by dual multi-run homers from Michael Gladden and Braden Jirovec to go up by six. Illinois College (14-6, 0-1 MWC) cut the UC lead in half during their at bats in the same frame but it was a lead the Maroons would not give up.
- While the pitching staff kept them at four runs, the Maroon & White offense kept moving right along. They got two more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two once again in the seventh as they snapped their extended skid with a nine run blowout win on the road.

The Maroons and Blueboys will go at it two more times tomorrow in Jacksonville to wrap up both teams first MWC series. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 pm.
