Softball Bags Two Run Rule Games Against WLC

CHICAGO – University of Chicago softball entered Thursday's games against Wisconsin Lutheran looking to build off the two big wins they earned last week against UW-Whitewater. With rain threatening the area, the Maroons made quick work of the Warriors and ended both games with six inning mercy rule victories.

RESULTS
Wisconsin Lutheran – 2
UChicago – 10

Wisconsin Lutheran – 3
UChicago – 11

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • University of Chicago's (17-8) march to a four-game winning streak began with a 10-2 thumping of Wisconsin Lutheran (9-19). Four of those runs were scored in a first inning that was highlighted but an Audrey Hui RBI double and an Anna Jensen two tally base hit.
    • The Warriors were the next to score and plated two in the fourth to cut the Maroons lead in half. However, a UChicago run in the bottom of the same frame got one of those back and gave them momentum heading into the latter half of the contest. A three run fifth gave the Maroon & White plenty of insurance runs and set up a two run sixth stanza that helped them end the game early thanks to a Madeline Murphy two RBI triple.
    • Paige Heffke owned the circle in the eight-run victory, not giving up a single earned tally in six innings pitched. She also struck out nine on her way to her eighth win of the season.
  • Game Two
    • The Maroons snagged a run in the top of the first in game two before they gave themselves a cushion in a three run second. Mia Bocian tripled to drive in the first run of the inning before Matilda Nelson and Natalie Antin also earned RBIs to put UChicago up 4-0.
    • The third stanza was the only one where the Maroons didn't score a run as they added another in the fourth before pouring on four in the fifth and two in the sixth. The blow to end the game one frame early was landed by Bocian who singled to left to score Alana Yazek right after Yazek plated the first run of the inning.
    • The trio of Delaney Romanchick, Nicole Wong, and Alana Kimball handled the pitching for UChicago and gave the home team a solid chance to secure the sweep on the day behind six innings of three run ball and four strikeouts. Wong was first up in relief and picked up her fourth win of the season as UChicago earned the victory with a 11-3 score.
