Softball Offense Powers By Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. – University of Chicago was back on the road and in Indiana making up a doubleheader from earlier this month against Franklin College. The Maroon bats tamed the Grizzlies in game one before they provided enough offense to let the pitching do the rest of the work in the two-game sweep.

RESULTS
UChicago – 11
Franklin – 3

UChicago – 10
Franklin – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • The University of Chicago (19-8) bats started off hot and made quick work of Franklin (21-9) to begin the doubleheader. The Maroons got two runs in their first at-bats thanks to a Mia Bocian single before they added another three in the third with a Bocian base hit and a Lilia Sims homer brought in two more.
    • With five runs already on the board and up by four, the Maroons sprung for five more in the fourth including RBIs fourth, five, and six for Bocian on the day as she drove the ball down the right field line for a triple.
    • Natalie Antin wrapped up the scoring with a run scoring single in the fifth while Pagie Heffke got the win with four innings of one run softball in the Maroons 11-3 five inning victory.
  • Game Two
    • The second contest of the day started off a little more quietly than the first but the 0-0 stalemate ended in the third when the Maroons plated six runs. UChicago got RBIs from Madeline Murphy, Bocian, Alana Yazek, and Clare Fortier in the frame and added three more the very next inning off three unearned runs due to Franklin errors.
    • The Grizzlies tried to mount a comeback with six runs in the second half of the contest, but it was too little too late. Just to be safe though, Tory Piuze got an extra insurance run in the seventh to give Chicago an even ten runs.
    • The trio of Delaney Romanchick, Delaney Choi, and Nicole Wong secured the win for the Maroon & White and only allowed a combined two earned runs while striking out six in the four run win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
