No. 5 Women's Tennis Sweeps Weekend Home Slate

CHICAGO – No. 5 University of Chicago women's tennis closed out the regular season with two weekend battles on the Stagg tennis courts. The Maroons made quick work of both Case Western Reserve and UW-Whitewater to give them plenty of momentum heading into the conference championships.

RESULTS
No. 12 Case Western Reserve – 1
No. 5 UChicago – 8

UW-Whitewater – 1
No. 5 UChicago – 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. No. 12 Case Western Reserve
    • No. 5 University of Chicago (15-1) started their weekend with a preview of a team they may see at the conference championships in No. 12 Case Western Reserve (12-4). The Spartans were able to snag a point in doubles play but the Maroons came away with the other two thanks to a thrilling effort from Vesely and Khou in a tight third slot battle.
    • It was smooth sailing in singles play for the Maroons though. Rena Lin had to fight a little harder than usual in the top position with a second set tiebreak victory, but the rest went relatively easily in their direction. Shianna Guo had the path of least resistance in a 6-1, 6-2 win in the sixth spot.
  • vs. UW-Whitewater
    • The Warhawks of UW-Whitewater (8-8) were up next as UChicago closed out their regular season with another home battle. The mirrored results from Friday's contest started in pairs where the Maroons were able to sweep for three points.
    • The only tally that the Maroon & White dropped on the afternoon was in an extremely close top singles spot. Outside of that contest, Chicago won four sets by 6-0 scores and another via five 6-1 results in their seven point victory over UWW.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons will now gear up for the UAA Championships next weekend. Day one of the three-day event heads your way on Friday, April 26th from Altamonte Springs, Fla.
