ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – University of Chicago men's tennis took their top seed into day two of the UAA Championships looking to take down WashU for the second time this month. The Bears were able to grab two points in doubles play but the Maroons stormed back with five straight victories to win the match and advance in the tournament.
RESULT
No. 4 WashU – 2
No. 1 UChicago – 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Top seeded University of Chicago (18-1) got quite the scare to start off their semifinal contest with fourth seeded WashU (12-10). The Bears were able to grab two points during doubles play, and while the team of Otero and Leonov came away with a top spot win, the Maroons still had some work to do entering the second portion of play down 2-1.
- However, UChicago used their battle tested experience and kept WashU off the board in solo action. They got victories out of the first, second, third, and sixth singles spots to force the other two matches to be abandoned in their 5-2 victory that moves them into the championship match on Saturday.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons will go after the UAA tournament title tomorrow morning when they take on Case Western Reserve starting at 8:30 am eastern.
