CHICAGO – No. 7 University of Chicago men's soccer hit the pitch for the first time this year and began a two game homestand with back-to-back opponents who come in to the weekend receiving votes in the national polls. First up was (RV) Gustavus Adolphus, a squad the Maroons tied with in 2023. UChicago tried to make their move with an increased offensive presence in the second half after a scoreless first but it was the Gusties that tallied the lone goal in the Maroons 1-0 loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- No. 7 University of Chicago (0-1) and (RV) Gustavus Adolpus (1-0) played a first half that was virtually even as the two teams opened their 2024 seasons. Both squads had six shots each in the first 45 minutes of play and each keeper managed to stop three shots from going in on each side.
- The back half of the contest featured a much more aggressive Maroons squad on offense, but it was the Gusties that struck first. They were able to sneak one past UChicago in the 62nd minute to go up 1-0.
- The Maroon and White tried to answer back with nine total shots in the second frame which allowed them to outshoot Gustavus 15-8 in the contest. They couldn't find the equalizer, though. The one effort that did find it's way to the back of the net was called offsides in their 1-0 loss to begin the year.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons schedule doesn't get any easier from here, though they will have a chance for revenge against No. 1 St. Olaf on Sunday. They'll take on the team that went on to win last year's national championship after knocking off UChicago in the quarterfinals at 12:00 pm on Stagg Field.
