CHICAGO. – University of Chicago women's volleyball opened up the season hosting a successful 2024 Rosalie Resch Invitational. Leaving the weekend 4-0, the Maroons capitalized on crucial momentum when trying to pull out tough wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. Lawrence University
- First up for the University of Chicago was Lawrence University, a program looking for something to prove with a new head coach.
- The Maroons swept the Vikings 3-0, allowing the opponents no more than 19 points. Offensively, UChicago collected about 20 more kills than Lawrence.
- Maggie McInerney led the Maroons with 14 kills and nine digs. Thalita Marangon was close behind with 10 kills of her own. Marangon also had a team-high five aces.
- vs. Loras University
- The Maroons were able to capture another sweep over the experienced Duhawks. In a more dominant fashion, UChicago capitalized on the little mistakes made early in each set.
- For the second game in-a-row, McInerney and Marangon led all teams with 11 kills. Libero Kennedy Cheung tallied 23 digs, three aces, and a team-high 18 assists.
- In the three sets, the Maroons scored a total of 57 points. They held off Loras with an overpowering 45 total kills and a season- high eight aces.
- vs. Carleton College
- Day two at the invitational proved to be a much more challenging day for the Maroons. After losing sets one and three, UChicago was able to climb back to get the tough win.
- UChicago fell hard in the first set, scoring only 13 points. Though, in almost every set after that, both teams finished only within eight points of each other.
- Keely Kandziora led all teams with 15 kills. Gibbs and Emma Lotts finished with 10 kills each as well.
- vs. St. Olaf
- In probably the Maroons toughest match of the invitational, they were able to close out a gritty win over the Lions.
- Marangon and Ava Novak led the Maroons with 12 kills while Kandziora tallied 11. Together all three accounted for over half of UChicago's total 55 of the game. Seven of the 12 Maroons that played notched a kill to their stat sheet.
- Though winning the match, UChicago was out blocked 7-5.
WHO'S ON DECK
Next up for the Maroons will be Carthage College. They'll hit the road to Kenosha, WI for a 7:00 pm start.
